Full course on management and leadership
- What is leadership?
Leadership differs from management. They are, however, two distinct and complementary modes of action, each with their own functions and activities. Both are necessary for success in today's economic environment.
- Management manages complexity through planning and budgeting; it sets the objectives to be achieved in the near future, by establishing the precise stages which make it possible to achieve them, then distributes the resources necessary for the implementation of this plan.
- While leadership guides the company in the direction of constructive change, starting with the definition of a direction: it builds a vision for the future as well as the strategies capable of producing the changes necessary for the accomplishment of this. vision.
□ The manager therefore controls people by keeping them in the right direction; the leader motivates them by ensuring that basic human needs are met.
- The human dimension of management
- a) Management and human contacts
Very often managers are responsible for market share, growth and profits. However, only exceptional managers become those who understand instinctively that management is not just a series of mechanical tasks but a set of human contacts.
- b) Integrity in management
All managers believe they have integrity. For some, integrity is synonymous with reservations or blind loyalty. Others equate it with consistency. Some confuse it with discretion.
Integrity has a more ambitious and more difficult meaning for managers. It means being responsible, of course, but also communicating clearly and regularly, acting honestly on behalf of others, keeping promises, knowing yourself and avoiding occult maneuvers from which others would be excluded. It is not much different from what is called "honor," which in part means not lying to yourself.
- c) The economic and moral responsibilities of managers
- Exceptional managers are always those who delegate, who give their subordinates the feeling of being powerful and capable, and who reveal in them so much creativity and sense of responsibility that their behavior changes forever.
- d) The manager in a permanent exercise of learning, training and persuasion
Remember to constantly question yourself so as not to be overwhelmed by the events. Don't stay static
The exceptional manager must engage in a permanent exercise of learning, training and persuasion.
□ You often have to fight to get people to do what is best for customers, for the business and even for them, because that means making them understand and want them to. This requires integrity, a disposition has given power to others, courage, tenacity and a lot of pedagogy.
